Tax Source UK is written and maintained by Gavin Ryalls, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants with 28 years experience in industry and private practice.

The site has been developed and inspired by a tax practice management course delivered with Colin Longhorn FCMA to fellow management accountants in practice. The course was presented over a number of years as part of CIMA’s professional development programme, aimed to provide non-tax specialists with the knowledge to serve their clients well and professionally.

 There are accountants and accountancy firms who specialise in tax law who are acknowledged experts in their field. Many are Chartered Tax Advisors. However, most accountants, particularly in smaller practices probably do not fall into this category. Capable and professional as they are, their areas of specialism are often not in tax. Another difficulty faced by all small practitioners is that they are obliged to deal with their clients’ tax affairs in a competent and professional way regardless of the nature of those affairs. Add to this the body of tax law which is now vast and growing.

 In an attempt to address some of these difficulties, Tax Source is offered to accountants (and anyone else who finds it useful) as a resource to identify the letter and context of tax law in the UK. It aims to bring together legislation, case law, HMRC guidance and commentaries in indexed tax topics.
